Students rights and obligations

Research School students can be enrolled in a unified two-level program that combines MSc and PhD education. Students can also choose to follow either a MSc or a PhD program.

Students are required to follow their approved individual study plans in full and in a timely manner. Each half year a student is required to submit a report to the Scientific Advisory Council Meeting to enable progress review in accordance with the individual study plan. Failure to comply with the individual plan without valid reasons will be regarded as grounds for student’s dismissal from the Research School.

For the entire period of training, each student joins a research team to implement funded research projects performed at the School's basic divisions. Subjects of research projects where students take part should be as close as possible to the subject of their qualification papers (MSc or PhD theses).

Students are eligible to receive financial support, including a government scholarship, special grants and allowances established by the University, as well as wages for taking part in scientific research relevant to the School's research agenda.

Students assume a voluntary commitment not to combine their PhD or MSc studies with any paid employment outside the basic units of the School or partner organizations without written approval by School management.

Research School students have a priority right for dorm accommodation during all the period of their enrollment and for two years after completing their PhD study (if employed by the University).

The University is committed to hire Research School graduates, who have completed and defended their theses in time, for working in research and teaching positions.
